Here's why the Pareto Principle, or the 80/20 Rule, is more of a guide than a guarantee. The Pareto Principle, or the 80/20 rule, states that 80% of the results come from 20% of the causes. This is evident everywhere. If you’ve ever been to a gym, you might have noticed that 80% of people use lighter dumbbells below 15 kg, while only a few serious bodybuilders reach for the heavier ones. Or think back to your school days: just 4–5 kids in a class of 50 were likely responsible for most of the noise and mischief. In business, this is even more evident: Many times 80% of a company’s profits often come from just 20% of its top-paying customers. The key takeaway? While focusing on high-impact activities is crucial, neglecting the remaining 80% can have detrimental consequences. Just like brushing your teeth, seemingly insignificant tasks are vital for overall well-being and long-term success.
