There could be multiple reasons for the emergence of AI but one I could see is rooted in biological need to attain immortality either by procreating or by self cell devision in single cell organism. Personal AIs are actually the API extensions of once behaviours and patterns which will be saved in the database for eternity. The basic but very nature of the living is to attain immortality has led humankind to create such things unknowingly but subconsciously. Welcome to critics.
