This startup is fighting climate change in a way no one else is. Meet Earthshot Labs, a company quietly becoming a critical force in saving the planet. Founded in 2021 by Troy Carter in California, Earthshot Labs aims to restore ecosystems and fight climate change at scale. They use AI-driven modeling, satellite imagery, and ecological science to understand the effects of deforestation, identify optimal areas for reforestation, and predict the outcomes of restoration efforts. Satellite data and AI also help them monitor and track the progress of their active projects, ensuring efficient management and measurable impact. They are currently working on over a million hectares of land across more than 60 projects globally, including reforestation, conservation, agroforestry, and improved forest management initiatives. This would eventually save ~30 million tons of CO2 — equivalent to Taylor Swift flying in her private jet 24/7 for 1,714 years. And if you're not aware, environmental startups make money too! They earn by selling carbon credits, partnering with corporations to meet sustainability goals, or securing government contracts. (Though that's not their primary goal.) Still, this proves how the use of tech and AI can solve huge issues like climate change!
