This side project makes Google $8 billion Annually! So, Google always encourages their employees to spend 20% of their time working on side projects. Because of this, Susan Wojcicki decided to make a tool that helps them monetize search results. This led her team to make a tool that puts ads on search results so that Google can earn. In 2003, they acquired a company called Applied Semantics for $103 Million, which further advanced the tech. They thought that this tech could also be used by other websites to make money. Thus, in 2003, Google officially launched this with the name Google AdSense. Today, Google makes $8 billion in revenue because of AdSense every year! Btw, Susan later became the CEO of YouTube, and Google’s founders initially rented Susan's garage to run Google.
