Yday, I wrote a letter to PM Modi, which also gained some attention here 🙏🙏 It was about how Delhi NCR having the highest concentration of income taxpayers in India, deserves way better than a 1k AQI poison air. And right after that, attacks began. And most of those fell into two brackets. 1> Why write to Modi? Why not Kejriwal? 2> Suggest the solutions! Do better! Well, let’s address both with honesty! .. PM Modi’s BJP rules 3/4 states around Delhi, which send their pollution to the NCR 🙏🙏 Plus, saner people would agree, he today holds more control over Delhi than the elected Govt. Thus, nobody has ever had a better chance and authority to solve this menace, but him. Thus, letter to him. And, if I were the Prime Minister of India, here are RADICAL things I would do. .. Delhi NCR specific actions: 1️⃣ Ban new POLLUTING industrial development in the NCR region, which will spark an investment boom beyond extended NCR regions like Haryana’s Sonipat, Rajasthan’s Alwar and UP’s Meerut. This shall also gradually reduce the industrial pollution load on the national capital, as existing industries looking to expand will have to move 2️⃣ Announce forest areas across Delhi NCR, which will have to be expanded at the same rate as the increase in population of the region, every year. The more lungs, the more trees. To facilitate this, I would announce an annual population census for Delhi NCR alone 3️⃣ Delhi Metro remains very small in coverage versus Beijing, Shanghai or Seoul metros. I would deepen the penetration across Gurgaon, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad Bahadurgarh, Faridabad and between them 4️⃣ Announce a cap on petrol & diesel vehicles sold in NCR, which will keep coming down every year to hit a complete ban in 5yrs 5️⃣ Install more AQI monitors in public spaces - What doesn’t get tracked well, also doesn’t get solved well .. Actions for regions surrounding Delhi NCR: 1️⃣ A 5yr action plan to build enough compressed biogas and waste-to-energy plants in Punjab, Haryana, UP & Rajasthan to completely absorb all the stubble generated. This shall also create lakhs of jobs beyond farming, and build a new economy 2️⃣ When setting up industries, if the distance from NCR boundaries would be a minimum 300 kilometres, the Centre would compensate with power subsidy. This will also expand economic activity beyond NCR .. “WHERE WILL THE MONEY COME FROM?” The economy is growing so strongly that every year, Govt generates enough fresh tax income to fund increasing monthly cash transfers as political bribes to farmers, women, elders and more 🙏🙏 If I were PM for just a 5yr term, my solution would be to offer clean air and water as bribe, like Udaipur gave me.
