Any successful business always focuses on what people want, and we do like short form content, no matter how much we hate it in public, we do consume a lot of it.

Think of this, if some bits of a large length vid is going viral then people will go and watch the whole vid and make more in ad rev and shorts make some money in ad rev anyway so issa win-win.

No, i think they work as a good preview of what kind of content a channel puts and people can subscribe based on that. Free trial basically before committing.

it's like a necessary evil. if they don't introduce it, they will lose their own users to these other apps like tiktok and reels. and once everyone is there, and if they bring out long form videos as well, YouTube is suddenly dead overnight.
