A few things you may not know about the great Ratan Tata: 1. Ratan Tata once canceled his plan to visit Buckingham Palace where he was supposed to receive a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' from Prince Charles. Why did he cancel? One of his dogs had fallen sick. 2. Ratan Tata is the first Indian to fly an F-16 Falcon fighter jet and this was way back in 2007. He also flew the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A380. He once landed an aircraft whose engine failed in mid-air and saved his classmates from a fatal mishap. 2. In 2021, #BharatRatnaForRatanTata was trending, and the youth of India demanded a Bharat Ratna for Ratan sir. While this would be the greatest moment of gratification for any entrepreneur, Ratan sir turned it down and requested that such campaigns should be discontinued. 4. The Tata Group has a market cap of $400+ billion but you wouldn't find Ratan Tata on the world's top billionaires list. Why? Because he donated $110B and his family donates over 65% of their wealth to causes like education, health, environment, and social welfare. 5. Ratan Tata and his love for dogs is well known. But it doesn't end there. He made sure that stray dogs were never shooed away, even at Mumbai's iconic Taj Mahal Hotel, and that animals were treated with kindness and care. In 2018, he turned a section of Tata Group's Mumbai headquarters into dedicated stray care and frequently used his Instagram to find shelter homes for stray dogs. He also opened the nation's first pet hospital with 24x7 emergency care. As the nation mourns his loss and people continue to share their stories of him, I am reminded of his greatness and the irreplaceable void his demise has created. As we bid farewell to this legend, his legacy is not lost and will be an inspiration for generations to come. I never met him but there was this deep sense of loss that ran through my heart when I heard the news for the first time. This thread is insignificant but in its own way, it felt like I was paying him a tribute as I wrote it. Heaven is a better place now. Rest in peace, sir. Om Shanti.
