Depends on the parents earning/richness level. Lower income folks make thier kids pursue btech and shit because they want their kids to succeed in life where they didn't and rich folks don't care as such or that deeply about one specific industry or path because they understand how they made money (f around and find out) or they know they will take care of their kids if they fail so let them experiment and find out what they like.
