Have you guys seen the user-generated content on the advanced voice mode of LLMs, like the one demonstrated by OpenAI a couple of months back? They don’t just understand human language; they also comprehend "human speech," knowing when to pause, when to smile, giggle, or laugh, and when to change their tone of voice based on what they understand. They can even decide how polite or rude to be, depending on the personality they are prompted to emulate. The potential is wild! Think of the capabilities. Have you really thought about the use cases these smart AIs are going to fulfill in both natural language and natural speech? I've been reflecting a lot on where this could lead and what the real-world applications might be (literally). Here are a few thoughts: Solving loneliness: The ability to act as an empathetic friend with a real personality, storing memories of everything you’ve ever talked about verbally in comic speech. Everyone having a personal assistant and expert friend who’s a doctor, engineer, teacher, coder, cook, and even a gossip buddy. Accessibility and 24/7 availability to research, download, post, and manage everything you do online daily, through natural language and even humorous conversation—just like talking to your high school buddy! Making daily life decisions such as fashion choices, hairstyles, grooming, and food habits with research-driven suggestions. The ability to learn almost anything, taught by an AI that relentlessly tries to help you understand, no matter how simple or complex you need the explanations to be. A real threat to Edtech industry. Should EdTech teachers and online programs that lack a personal touch be worried? Before long, you’ll be amazed at how smart your Google Home and Amazon Alexa devices become, as big tech companies intentionally make them feel like part of your family. This revolution is unfolding so steadily and under the radar that, psychologically, it will soon become difficult to live without it—just like how the internet became essential for information and vehicles became essential for commuting. Can you really imagine your life without a piece of tech which gives you human feedback ? I personally have made some lifestyle changes adapting these voice LLMs on my phone and PC. Fun times coming ahead.
