I am myself a opium farmer, it is hard to get the licence first, second there are farmers who are ready to pay lakhs to get a license for a fraction of land i.e 5000-10000 sq metre. So you cannot grow in more than 10000sq meter area, which will fetch you 12kg of opium, that is also mandatory for you to submit to government at 2-5k per kg rate. We are importing poppy from turkey and other countries when we have good capacity here in India to produce a good amount of opium. But there is a lot of bureaucracy and politics that comes into picture in this farming.
