Totally agree to him. Most of the time we don't do anything just because of "what others will think of us". And this actually doens't make any sense. If you did something, People will forget about that in few days but if you didn't, you will loose an opportunity that will cost you; not them! This guy (my friend) sang a song and performed a whole act in front of 1000+ students and few actors.
