Why is it so Hard to Get into YC? To understand why it's difficult to get into YC, let's first review the application process: Step 1: Fill out the YC application form online. Step 2: Strong applications are selected for an interview round. Step 3: Those who pass the interview are funded by YC and spend three months at their San Francisco, where they learn about startups. Now, the reason why its hard to get selected is pretty straightforward. So, There is a limit to how many startups YC can handle in their program and its around 200-300 per batch. Now no matter how many startups apply, only 200-300 can be selected. Additionally, when selecting candidates for interviews, YC doesn't first review all 30,000+ applications they receive. Instead, as they review, if they find a good application (something YC would invest in), they invite that team for an interview immediately. For them It's not about finding the absolute best 200-300 startups, it's about identifying startups that meet their criteria until their slots are filled. Also, since they recieve a ton of applications, their 'minimum' criteria is also quite high and that's why not everyone is invited for the interview. So this was a simple reason why it's Hard to get into YC. "Make something people want." - YC
