The Hindenberg-Adani Case timeline -> 24 January 2023: Hindenburg Research, a US-based short seller, accused the Adani Group, led by Gautam Adani, of financial misconduct. Adani denied these allegations. 1 February 2023: SEBI started investigating an $86 billion drop in Adani Group stocks, as reported by Reuters. February 2023: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court, asking for a committee, led by a former Supreme Court judge, to investigate the claims. 2 March 2023: The Supreme Court directed SEBI to investigate the allegations of stock price manipulation and regulatory issues by the Adani Group within two months. May 2023: A report was submitted by the expert committee appointed by the Supreme Court. 17 May 2023: The Supreme Court extended SEBI's deadline to 14 August 2023 to complete its investigation into the Adani Group's alleged stock price manipulation. 24 November 2023: The Supreme Court reserved its decision on several appeals related to the Adani-Hindenburg dispute and stock price manipulation allegations. 3 January 2024: The Supreme Court ordered SEBI to complete its investigation into two remaining cases within three months. It supported SEBI's clean chit to the Adani Group and declined to transfer the investigation to a special team. 10 August 2024: Hindenburg Research made new allegations against SEBI's Chairperson, Madhabi Buch, claiming she and her husband had stakes in offshore entities involved in the Adani money laundering scandal.
