check out Small Case. They have readymade portfolios of debt instruments managed by experts. It's a good middle ground between doing it yourself and hiring a financial advisor.

Unpopular opinion: If you're a complete beginner, start with a simple bank FD. Yes, returns are low, but it's a good way to understand fixed income without any risk. Once you're comfortable, move to platforms like ET Money or Paytm Money for debt funds

I'd recommend starting with the government's own platform - RBI Retail Direct. You can invest directly in G-secs and T-bills. It's as safe as it gets, and you cut out the middleman. The interface is a bit clunky, but hey, it's the government, what do you expect?
