The move by the Siddaramaiah government to introduce reservations for Kannadigas in the private sector in Karnataka has turned into a self-defeating exercise. The progress seen in Bengaluru, including the metro and the employment of 5 million people in IT and related sectors, is due to the lack of government intervention in this area. The plain truth is that the region's development occurred because the government stayed out of the way. Siddaramaiah’s recent statements are causing untold damage to this ecosystem. It's worth noting that NASSCOM has reacted strongly against this proposal. Additionally, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh has invited NASSCOM to relocate to their Visakhapatnam cluster. Tamil Nadu is also likely to make a similar offer soon. If the bill passes, not only Bengaluru but the whole of Karnataka risks earning a reputation as a business-unfriendly state and missing out on emerging AI investments.
