Do you remember them? Tata DOCOMO, launched in 2008, shook up India's telecom market with its "2GB for 48 rupees" offer. This innovative pricing, coupled with their "Do the New" slogan, quickly attracted millions of subscribers. At its peak in 2011, Tata DOCOMO's revenue reached ₹10,800 crore (approximately $1.5 billion). After intense competition, especially after Reliance Jio's entry in 2016, led to declining profits. By 2017, Tata DOCOMO was struggling with mounting losses and a shrinking market share. In October 2017, Bharti Airtel agreed to acquire Tata's consumer mobile business in a cash-free, debt-free deal. While the exact sale price wasn't disclosed, Airtel assumed about ₹2,000 crore ($300 million) of Tata's unpaid spectrum liabilities. This marked the end of Tata DOCOMO, but its legacy of affordable data plans had already transformed India's telecom landscape, paving the way for widespread mobile internet adoption. (P.S. added their nostalgic ring)
