Tech companies, like OpenAl, Microsoft, and Anthropic, have agreed to an Al 'kill switch' to prevent Terminator-style risks. At a recent summit in Seoul, 16 major Al companies, including OpenAl, agreed to a voluntary policy to stop advanced Al development if risks get too high. This policy isn't legally enforced and doesn't define these risk levels. The summit followed a similar meeting at Bletchley Park, which was criticized for lacking actionable commitments. Al leaders know the risks, with experts warning about scenarios where Al could turn against humans. Efforts to regulate Al globally have been fragmented and mostly nonbinding, but some countries, like the US and China, are creating formal Al policies. President Biden's executive order on Al safety is a key example.
