What a line! This book never gets old to me. Zero to One "If you copy these guys (successful founders), you are not learning from them." I will build the next twitter from India. What we will be set to get is Koo (failure product). I will build the next Tiktok from India. What we are going to receive is MX Takatak, a failed product. I plan to build the next Google from India (which makes no sense). In business, everything occurs once. Yes, patriotism is necessary. Yes, we want things from India for the world, but we are not so patriotic and autocratic that we close our borders to global companies like China. So, unless your product lacks innovation (delta 4), do not go for it on the basis of patriotism.

I appreciate the Make in India spirit, I really do, you can't just slap an Indian sticker on cloned crap and expect it to become the "next big thing". That's not how groundbreaking innovation works.

True that the next Google won't come from just blind patriotism. But never underestimate the power of solving for Indian use cases and constraints to create a leapfrog product.

Agree 100%. Too many Indian startups are just blatantly copying proven models instead of charting their own path based on original insights. That's a recipe for stunted growth.

Exactly. India's obsession with making desi knockoffs of existing products is just setting us up for failure. Koo, Takatak etc are dead on arrival against the global giants

That quote is so true. Just copying what's already been done doesn't make you a real innovator or visionary. You have to find an original insight and have a unique angle.
