Imagine a solar power plant as big as all of Chennai! 🤯🤯 China has just turned to live a 2L acre plant- DOUBLE the area of Chennai. This is the world’s largest solar power plant and is located in the vast deserts of Xinjiang. .. But despite being so large, the amount of power it produces is just 5GW. Now, consider the fact that India activated 9.5GW of solar power capacity in Jan-Mar 2023, the highest for any quarter to date. Means, that within a quarter, we would have probably used up an area almost as big as 4 times that of Chennai! .. In fact think of India’s total solar power capacity. -> That’s about 80GW. Means, an area as big as 32 Chennais! -> And going by the 2030 target of 290GW solar, we will need an ADDITIONAL area as big as 84 Chennais! Most of us don’t even realise the amount of land that this demands. .. The good thing is, we live in India 🙏🙏 We are so large and have vast tracts of barren or deserted lands. So, that helps. For example, much of India’s solar power capacities are coming up on the desert and barren lands of Gujarat and Rajasthan, where we have a humongous availability of cheaply available mass unusable lands. This gives India a big advantage when building large-scale solar power plants, versus most of the smaller nations, irrespective of how powerful their economy may be. Blessed, right! What do you think?
