I personally feel trending page in currently under construction. It's not fully optimised so, you might not be seeing much difference or impact of it. But generally in Medial when post and decent engagement or medial team finds your post to be useful and worthful to put in trending page than they place it.

What's the criteria for a trending post? Some people getting 6 like in 10 hours and only 1 reply are trending, while I'm constantly getting same likes and more replies, still not trending. Can you explain @medial?
