Damn, even Brazil is ahead of India in per capita GDP? I knew we were leagues behind developed nations, but that's a real wake up call that we need to pursue more inclusive, balanced growth across all states/sectors.

This is why we need to look beyond just the topline GDP numbers for any economy. Per capita GDP, HDI, median incomes etc. are much better indicators of how affordable and high the standard of living actually is for the average citizen.

To be fair, you can't really compare apples to oranges here. Germany is a developed, industrialized economy while India is still in the developing phase trying to lift hundreds of millions out of poverty. The per capita GDP gap makes sense at this stage.

Agreed. These GDP per capita numbers really put things into perspective. While India's overall GDP ranking looks impressive on the surface, the low per capita income shows there's still a lot of ground to cover in terms of evenly distributed economic prosperity and development.

One of the reason why India is one of the largest economy is it's population due to which engaging economic activities are very obvious so eventually the economy will be huge where in Germany the population is lower and the Ares is not so big despite of this Germany is ahead, don't you think we should not be this proud of India, ( a opinion)
