It's surprising to see how individuals from humble backgrounds, without extensive business knowledge, go on to create very successful small businesses. What it takes to build a small business that generates sufficient income for your family's survival, along with some extra cash, is not an abundance of knowledge but an understanding of the marketplace and proper positioning. Business is about providing customers with what they need, offering as much convenience as possible, and doing so at a better price. That's the essence of business in most cases. We need knowledge, but more importantly, we need clarity about what we are doing and why we are doing it. We must be clear about the outcomes we want to achieve. These few elements, if aligned properly, can often lead to the creation of a successful small business.
