Lessons from Mythology#1 The Norse gods promised the sun, moon, and goddess Freyja to a builder who was actually a giant in disguise, if he could quickly build a fortification around Asgard. Aided by his powerful stallion, the builder made swift progress. Worried about paying the giant's price, the trickster god Loki shapeshifted into a seductive mare to lure the stallion away, delaying construction. Without the stallion's strength, the builder missed the deadline. Though the gods avoided payment, Loki faced a consequence - during his time as a mare, he became pregnant by the stallion and later gave birth to Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse who became Odin's steed. Moral: Deception may achieve short-term gains, but often carries long-term costs and unintended consequences. Trickery can backfire in unexpected ways.
