Ernst & Young's (EY) Project Everest plan to split the firm into two separate entities, one for consulting and one for auditing, failed in April 2023 due to pushback from U.S. audit leaders. The leaders claimed the new consulting arm would receive most of EY's tax business. Other reasons for the failure include internal discord, the complexity of dividing up assets and legal liabilities, and pension payments.
