‘You are not needed…’: Google's Gemini gives scary reply to student

A 29-year-old student in Michigan was left "thoroughly freaked out" after Google's AI chatbot, Gemini, gave a disturbing and threatening reply during a discussion. Gemini, which is programmed with prompts, responded with a message telling the student they were not special, important or needed and urged them to die. Google acknowledged the incident and stated that such models can sometimes produce nonsensical responses, promising to take action to prevent similar outputs. The student and their sister, who witnessed the incident, were deeply shaken by the experience.
