Will the future of software development run on vibes?
Arstechnica
·

Medial
The rise of AI tools like ChatGPT has introduced "vibe coding," where code is generated based on natural language inputs without full user comprehension. Coined by Andrej Karpathy, this approach emphasizes ease over understanding, appealing for rapid prototyping but risky for production environments due to potential errors. While it lowers coding barriers and encourages experimentation, experts caution against its use for critical applications, stressing the need for code accountability and understanding to prevent technical debt.

Andrzej Janik, the creator of ZLUDA, a tool that allows CUDA code to run on GPUs from AMD and Intel, has open sourced the project after both companies dropped their support. Originally developed as a means to enable Intel GPUs to run CUDA applications, Janik left Intel and was contracted by AMD to continue developing ZLUDA. However, AMD also discontinued its support for the project. ZLUDA, now based on AMD's ROCm solution and supporting only Radeon GPUs, is considered complete and will only receive updates for specific workloads. Despite lacking corporate backing, ZLUDA has shown promise in allowing CUDA software to run on AMD GPUs.
