WhatsApp banned a record 22.3 million accounts in India during Q1 2024, indicating growing challenges related to online scams and user safety. The bans were implemented based on user complaints, violations of Indian laws and WhatsApp's Terms of Service, and directives from the Grievance Appellate Committee. The number of banned accounts increased steadily each month, with 6.7 million banned in January, 7.6 million in February, and 7.9 million in March. These accounts were primarily engaged in activities such as scams and spam, highlighting India's significant misuse of the platform. WhatsApp urges users to follow its guidelines and report unauthorized access.
