Uber ups hyperlocal deliveries as quick commerce takes off

Uber is expanding its hyperlocal delivery service in India, offering quick commerce options in nine cities. The service allows customers to order items from local stores, which are then picked up by Uber drivers on two-wheelers. Initially, payments are made directly to the stores, but Uber plans to collect payments on behalf of the stores in the future. This move comes as other companies, including Dunzo, PhonePe, and Ola, have exited or restarted similar delivery services. Uber's entry into the quick-deliveries segment in India could challenge existing players such as Zomato-owned Blinkit and Zepto.
