Tesla wants net-zero emissions, but its pollution grew in 2023

Tesla's greenhouse gas emissions increased by about 20% in 2023, with most of the additional pollution coming from its supply chain. The company's latest impact report outlines steps towards achieving net-zero emissions and identifies climate-related risks it faces. Tesla's sustainability assessment resulted in a list of 20 focus areas including climate risk management, air quality, and worker safety. The report also highlights drought as the biggest risk to Tesla's manufacturing in the short term and acknowledges potential changes in business practices to reduce emissions. However, Tesla claims that its customers' adoption of electric vehicles resulted in the avoidance of 20 million metric tons of CO2 pollution.
