Tech M&A Raises Fears Over Software Pricing, Bundling for CIOs

Chief information officers (CIOs) are expressing concerns over software vendors shifting sales strategies to focus on larger, more expensive software bundles due to an increase in business technology acquisitions. This trend has been observed with companies like VMware and Salesforce, leading to potential increases in pricing despite not necessarily requiring all the features included in the bundles. CIOs are requesting more flexible, modular offerings similar to cloud pricing, as well as expressing caution and uncertainty regarding the integration and stability of products after mergers and acquisitions. However, some CIOs welcome consolidation in areas such as cybersecurity to reduce attack surfaces and integration costs.
