Symbolica hopes to head off the AI arms race by betting on symbolic models

Symbolica AI, a startup founded by ex-Tesla engineer George Morgan, is looking to develop novel AI models that offer greater accuracy with lower data requirements, training time, and cost. Traditional deep learning and generative language models require enormous scale and resources to produce useful outcomes. Symbolica aims to build structured AI models that encode the underlying structure of data, allowing for better performance without relying solely on scaling compute power. Symbolic AI approaches, which use symbols to represent knowledge with a set of rules, may offer more transparency, reliability, and accountability compared to neural networks. The company recently secured a $33 million investment.
