Stratolaunch conducts 'captive carry' test flight of hypersonic vehicle

Private company Stratolaunch recently conducted its second captive carry test flight of its reusable hypersonic vehicle, the Stratolaunch Talon-A. The vehicle, loaded with live propellant, was carried by the Spirit of Mojave, a modified Boeing 747-400 aircraft, during the more than four-hour flight over the Pacific Ocean. The Talon-A will be used to carry hypersonic weapons systems during their development, enabling component makers to test various equipment onboard. The global race to develop hypersonic weapons, which travel at more than five times the speed of sound, is gaining momentum, with companies like Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman joining the competition. Stratolaunch aims to complete the development of the Talon-A this year.
