Startups in India grew over 300 times in ten years: Union Minister Jitendra Singh

India's startup ecosystem has experienced tremendous growth in the past decade under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The number of startups in the country has increased from around 350 in 2014 to become the 3rd largest globally. This growth can be attributed to the government's efforts in promoting entrepreneurship and diversifying employment opportunities beyond traditional government jobs. Additionally, PM Modi has also played a crucial role in expanding India's space research sector and opening it up to the private sector. These initiatives have propelled India's economy to become the 5th largest globally, with the aim of reaching the top position by 2047.

The number of startups grew 300 times in the last nine years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in the country, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Saturday. The Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) was speaking at a two-day 'Young Start-up Conclave' which commenced in Udhampur, the home constituency of Singh. "The startups in India grew 300 times in the last 9 years as from just around 350 startups before 2014, there has been a quantum jump in startups to more than 90,000 with more than 100 unicorns," Singh said.
