Indian benchmark indexes, Sensex and Nifty, closed lower due to declines in IT and metal stocks. Trade is expected to be rangebound in the upcoming sessions due to the lack of triggers during the holiday-shortened week. The benchmarks are unlikely to see significant gains until early January when the December-quarter earnings start trickling in. Nine of the 13 major sectors declined, with IT companies and metal index being the major losers. Auto stocks, on the other hand, gained, while City gas distributors also saw an increase amidst reports of reduced excise duty on compressed natural gas.

The Nifty and Sensex started weak on August 12 after a strong performance in the previous session. Hindenburg Research's claim that the SEBI Chairperson held stakes in offshore entities tied to Adani caused ripples in the market. However, market experts believe that it will not have a significant impact in the medium to long term. Adani Group stocks were also trading in the red, while foreign institutional investors turned net buyers. Only the Nifty Realty index saw a slight increase, while all other indices dipped.

Indian stock market indices, the Sensex and Nifty, closed flat after reaching record highs earlier in the day. The Sensex hit an all-time high of 85,163, while the Nifty surpassed the 26,000 milestone for the first time, reaching 26,011. The market's performance reflects investor confidence in India's growth potential, supported by resilient macroeconomic indicators and increased foreign institutional investor inflows. Metal, IT, and auto stocks drove the rally, while FMCG and banking stocks struggled. The geopolitical concerns in the Middle East did not hinder the market's upward trajectory.
