Report: Israel used AI to identify bombing targets in Gaza
The Verge

Israel's military has reportedly used artificial intelligence (AI) to select bombing targets in Gaza, resulting in the killing of thousands of civilians, according to an investigation by Israeli publications +972 Magazine and Local Call. The AI system, called Lavender, allegedly marked 37,000 Palestinians as "Hamas militants" and approved their assassinations. Israeli intelligence officers claimed they were not required to independently examine targets before bombing them and effectively served as a "rubber stamp" for the machine's decisions. The system had a 90% accuracy rate, but about 10% of those identified as Hamas operatives were not actually members.

Meta's Oversight Board has ruled that the use of the phrase "From the River to the Sea" does not violate Facebook's content policies. The phrase, often associated with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, has been debated for its potential anti-Semitic connotations. The board concluded that the phrase, when used as a standalone statement, did not constitute hate speech, incitement, or violence and should not result in post removal. The phrase refers to the area including Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza, and is interpreted differently by different users. Some see it as a call for self-determination and equal rights, while others view it as calling for the elimination of Israel as a Jewish state.
