OpenAI has introduced a new feature in its ChatGPT app that allows users to have conversations with a simulated version of Santa Claus through voice mode. By accessing the Santa voice option in ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode, users can enjoy a North Pole connection on their mobile devices, desktop apps, and web browsers during the holiday season. The Santa feature will be available until early January and conversations will not be saved or impact the AI model's memory. OpenAI will also reset users' Advanced Voice Mode usage limits as a gift to give everyone a chance to talk to Santa.

OpenAI has released Advanced Voice Mode with vision for its ChatGPT app, allowing users to point their phones at objects and receive real-time responses. The feature also includes screen sharing capabilities to explain settings or provide math problem suggestions. The rollout will start this week for certain subscribers, with others gaining access in January. OpenAI showcased the feature's ability to understand drawings during a recent demo. However, it also acknowledged that the system could still make mistakes or "hallucinate". Google and Meta are also developing similar video analysis capabilities for their chatbot products. OpenAI has also launched a festive "Santa Mode" with Santa's voice as a preset option.

OpenAI has decided to pause the use of one of its ChatGPT voices called Sky, after users claimed it sounded like Scarlett Johansson's voice from the movie "Her." Although OpenAI denies any intention to mimic Johansson's voice, the actress stated that CEO Sam Altman approached her to lend her voice to the system, a request she declined. OpenAI has not provided further details on why they chose to halt the use of the Sky voice. This comes as OpenAI introduces GPT-4o, a new generative AI model with text, image, and voice capabilities.

OpenAI has announced a delay in the launch of its advanced Voice Mode feature for its AI chatbot platform, ChatGPT. Originally planned for a rollout to a small group of paying users in late June, technical issues have pushed the launch to sometime in July. OpenAI is currently working on improving the model's ability to detect and refuse certain content, as well as enhancing the user experience and preparing infrastructure for scalability. The delay will not impact the rollout of new video and screen sharing capabilities. OpenAI previously faced controversy over similarities between the default voice and Scarlett Johansson's voice, though the company denies using her voice without permission.

OpenAI is now allowing users to access their conversational AI, ChatGPT, without the need for an account. Users can visit chat.openai.com and start conversing with ChatGPT, with the chats being used for training data unless the user opts out. However, the free version does not have all the features available to logged-in users, such as saving and sharing chats or using custom instructions. Additionally, the content policies for the free version will be slightly more restrictive, but the specifics are not disclosed. OpenAI will rely on user feedback to improve the experience and address potential abuses of the system.

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Pro, a $200/month subscription offering unlimited access to all models, including the enhanced o1 reasoning model. Targeting power users, o1 excels in math, coding, and real-world problem-solving, now with image reasoning capabilities. The Pro plan includes “o1 pro mode,” which uses more compute for complex queries, reducing errors significantly in data science and programming. It also provides unlimited GPT-4o and Advanced Voice Mode access. OpenAI expects to integrate o1 into its API with features like image analysis and function calling. Despite its high cost, the plan aims to attract dedicated users and alleviate OpenAI's financial strain, as the company faces $5 billion in projected losses this year despite $300 million in monthly revenue.
