Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that allows parents to sue social media companies for up to $10,000 if they fail to remove flagged accounts of their underage children. The bill also prohibits children under 14 from being on social media and requires parental consent for children aged 14 and 15 to join these platforms. Companies not complying with the legislation could be fined up to $50,000 per violation and parents can sue for damages. However, legal experts suggest that the bill may face challenges related to First Amendment rights. Other states with similar legislation have faced opposition from tech coalition NetChoice LLC.
