Google and Tel Aviv University researchers have developed GameNGen, an AI model that can simulate the 1993 game Doom in real-time using AI image generation techniques. The model, which functions as a limited game engine, has the potential to enable real-time video game synthesis by using AI to generate graphics on the spot. GameNGen can generate new frames of Doom gameplay at over 20 frames per second, and in tests, humans struggled to distinguish between the generated frames and actual gameplay footage. The model uses a modified version of Stable Diffusion 1.4 for image synthesis.

According to Jio Haptik, ChatGPT backed superbots are not a one-size-fits-all solution and need training before they can be effectively used. While GPT is good for simple tasks, it struggles with multitasking and can get confused when multiple things are added. Haptik has developed its own architecture using LLM to address customer engagements and solve problems in real-time. They have also focused on data privacy and built guardrails around hallucination and data sharing in order to provide enterprises with a reliable chatbot solution called Contakt.

What's your (p)doom? The morbid question making rounds in tech
Business Insider

The paragraph discusses the concept of "p(doom)" in the tech world, which stands for the probability of doom related to AI destroying humanity. It has become a popular icebreaker among techies, asking for someone's p(doom) as casually as asking for directions. The score ranges from 0 to 100, where a higher p(doom) implies a belief in the fast and reckless development of AI leading to doom, while a lower p(doom) suggests a lower probability of such an outcome. The tension between those pushing forward with AI and those advocating caution, like Elon Musk, is mentioned.

Stable Diffusion Turbo XL can generate AI images as fast as you can type

Stability AI has introduced Stable Diffusion XL Turbo, an AI image-synthesis model that can generate imagery in real-time based on a written prompt. The model uses a technique called Adversarial Diffusion Distillation (ADD) to produce image outputs in a single step, significantly reducing the number of required steps compared to its predecessor. While the images produced by SDXL Turbo aren't as detailed as those generated by higher step counts, the speed savings are impressive. Stability AI claims that the model can generate a 1024x1024 image in about 4 seconds, compared to 26.4 seconds for a 20-step image with similar detail.

Elon Musk's company xAI has developed an AI model called Grok, which has fewer guardrails compared to other AI systems. Grok is designed to answer questions with a sense of humor and can handle "spicy" or rejected content. The AI model has been built on top of a language model called Grok-1 with 33 billion parameters and utilizes real-time knowledge from the X platform (formerly Twitter). However, concerns arise regarding the potential absence of safeguards against malicious use and the AI model's vulnerability to biases and misbehaviors.

A new startup called Vectara, founded by former Google employees, is analyzing chatbot behavior to understand how often they make up information, a phenomenon known as "hallucination". Research estimates that chatbots invent information at least 3% of the time, and possibly as high as 27%. This poses a significant problem when chatbots are used with court documents, medical information, or sensitive business data. The research also reveals that hallucination rates vary among leading AI companies, with OpenAI having the lowest rate at around 3%, while a Google system had the highest rate at 27%.
