Gaming and sports media company Nazara Technologies operating revenue has decreased marginally in Q1 FY25. However, the firm managed to grow its profit by over 38% majorly due to low deferred tax. Nazara’s operating revenue fell 6.06% to Rs 250 crore in Q1 FY25 from Rs 266.2 crore in Q4 FY24, its unaudited consolidated financial statements sourced from National Stock Exchange (NSE) show. e-sports formed 52.73% of the company’s total operating revenue whereas the gaming segment had a share of 37.11% followed by ad tech which accounted for 10.26% of the topline. Nazara also made Rs 25.57 crore via interest and gains on financial assets during the quarter which pushed its overall revenue to Rs 275.65 crore. The company reduced its total expenses by 15.44%, bringing them down to Rs 241 crore in Q1 FY25 from Rs 285 crore in Q4 FY24. Content, events, and web servers collectively contributed 35.17% to the total expenses, while employee benefits and marketing accounted for 21.28% and 17% of the total costs, respectively. Nazara’s fall in expenses led to a 38.53% spike in profit which stood at Rs 23.62 crore in Q1 FY25 against Rs 17 crore in Q4 FY24. With more than a dozen brands under its portfolio, Nazara Technologies is on an acquisition spree. As per TheKredible, the company has acquired 14 startups to date, with 4 deals concluded in the last two months including Fusebox Games, Kiddopia’s developer Paper Boat Apps, IP rights of Ultimate Teen Patti and assets of DeltiasGaming. Nazara has seen significant success in its ‘acquire and scale’ strategy over the last few years and plans to invest $100 million for mergers and acquisitions in the coming two years. Nazara also made headlines last month when Openplay Technologies and Halaplay Technologies, the two subsidiaries of the gaming firm, received notice from the Goods and Services (GST) department to pay nearly Rs 1,120 crore in retrospective taxes for the period of FY18 to FY23. Nazara made its entry into the public market in March 2021 at Rs 1,990 per share and achieved an all-time high of over Rs 2,600 in October 2021. The company also went for a stock split in June 2024 at a 2:1 ratio. Its current share price stands at around Rs 932.15 with a market cap of Rs 7,130 crore or $$850 million, as of Aug 14, 2024 (IST 1:00 PM).

Rekha Jhunjhunwala, wife of the late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, has trimmed her stake in gaming services provider Nazara Technologies Limited during June, as per data available on the BSE. Rekha Jhunjhunwala offloaded 29.75 lakh shares of Nazara Technologies between June 2 and June 10. Based on the average trading price of Rs 1,256.5 during this period, the sale is estimated to be worth around Rs 374 crore. According to the disclosure filed with the Bombay Stock Exchange, Rekha Jhunjhunwala’s shareholding in Nazara Technologies dropped from 7.05% (61.83 lakh shares) as of June 1, 2025, to 3.66% (32.08 lakh shares). As per the shareholding pattern as of March 2025, SBI Mutual Fund holds an 8.37% stake in the company, while Plutus Wealth Management owns 11.54%. NK Squared along with Kamath Associates, both linked to Nikhil Kamath, collectively hold a 3.72% stake. Last month, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the acquisition of a majority stake and control over Nazara Technologies Limited by Axana Estates LLP, Plutus Wealth Management LLP, and Junomoneta Finsol Private Limited. Nazara Technologies has completed four acquisitions in 2025 so far. In January, it acquired two popular mobile game titles King of Thieves and CATS: Crash Arena Turbo Stars from ZeptoLab for $7.7 million. In May, the company acquired UK-based game publisher Curve Games for Rs 247 crore. During the same month, its subsidiary Sportskeeda acquired wrestling news platforms TJRWrestling.net and ITRWrestling.com from Titan Insider Digital in an all-cash deal worth Rs 10.5 crore. On the financial front, Nazara Technologies reported revenue of Rs 520 crore in the final quarter of the previous fiscal year, along with a profit of Rs 4 crore. For the full year FY25, the company recorded a 40.8% year-on-year growth in total income, to Rs 1,715 crore from Rs 1,218 crore in FY24. Nazra is currently trading at Rs 1,276.5 with a total market capitalization of Rs 11,184 crore (approximately $1.31 billion).

Foodtech major Zomato has received a demand notice of Rs 803 crore (nearly $100 million) from the Joint Commissioner of CGST & Central Excise, Thane Commissionerate, Maharashtra. On Thursday, the company received a demand order passed by the Joint Commissioner of CGST & Central Excise, Thane, of Rs 803 crore for the period from 29 October 2019 to 31 March 2022, the company’s filing accessed from the National Stock Exchange shows. The demand order has been received in respect of the non-payment of GST on delivery charges, including interest and penalties. The total amount of Rs 803 crore comprises Rs 401.7 crore each as GST demand and interest/penalties. “We believe that we have a strong case on merits, which is backed by opinions from our external legal and tax advisors. The company will be filing an appeal against the order before the appropriate authority,” the filing further added. Zomato closed at Rs 285.6 (as on 12th December), with the market capitalization standing at Rs 2,75,614 crore (approximately $32.8 billion). The GST demand notice might affect the company’s shares tomorrow. The company recently raised over $1 billion through a Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP) of equity shares. For the fiscal year ending in, Zomato achieved a remarkable 68.5% quarter-on-quarter growth in operating revenue, reaching Rs 4,799 crore in Q2 FY25 from Rs 2,848 crore in Q2 FY24. The company also recorded a 4.8x increase in net profit to Rs 176 crore in the September quarter. Its arch-rival Swiggy posted Rs 3,601 crore of revenue, with a net loss standing at Rs 625 crore during the second quarter of the ongoing fiscal year. The recently listed firm closed at Rs 507.6 per share, with a total market capitalization of Rs 1,13,623 crore (approximately $13.5 billion).
