Nasscom writes to Karnataka CM, raises ‘serious concerns’ over draft gig workers bill

The National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) has raised concerns over Karnataka's proposed gig worker welfare bill in a letter to the state's chief minister. Nasscom asked for an extension of the public consultation period and requested the involvement of industry associations and online platforms in an interdepartmental meeting. The bill was criticized for not having a mechanism to prevent duplicate regulations, treating gig workers as regular employees, and imposing onerous obligations on platforms. Another industry body, the Internet and Mobile Association of India, has also expressed similar concerns and urged for further consultation.
