Microsoft and Quantinuum have made progress in advancing the reliability of quantum computers, bringing them closer to commercial viability. With tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and IBM racing to perfect quantum computing, this achievement is significant. Quantum computers have the potential to perform scientific calculations that would take millions of years on traditional computers. However, the fundamental unit of quantum computers, called a qubit, is prone to data errors. Microsoft and Quantinuum have developed an error-correction algorithm that yields about four reliable qubits from 30 physical ones, which is the best ratio ever achieved. Microsoft plans to release this technology to its cloud computing customers in the near future.
