Microsoft launches a deepfakes creator

Microsoft has launched a new tool called Azure AI Speech text-to-speech avatar that can create photorealistic avatars of people and animate them to say things they didn't actually say. The tool allows users to upload images of a person and write a script for the avatar to speak. It can be used to create training videos, virtual assistants, chatbots, and more. However, there are concerns about potential misuse and ethical implications, including compensating actors for the use of their likenesses. Microsoft requires explicit permission and disclosure that the avatars are AI-generated. Additionally, Microsoft has introduced a new tool called personal voice, which can replicate a user's voice for personalized voice assistants and audio content.
