Microsoft AI engineer warns FTC about Copilot Designer safety concerns
The Verge
·
1y
A Microsoft engineer has reported the company's AI image generator, Copilot Designer, to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for producing harmful and inappropriate images. The engineer, Shane Jones, claims that Microsoft ignored repeated warnings about the tool's capability to generate offensive content. Testing the tool, Jones discovered it generated images of demons, sexualized women, underage drinking, and politically sensitive scenes involving Disney characters. Microsoft's spokesperson stated that they are committed to addressing employee concerns in line with their policies, but Jones argues that the company has failed to take appropriate action. In January, Copilot Designer also gained attention for generating explicit images of Taylor Swift.
