Meta permits its AI models to be used for US military purposes

Meta is now allowing US government agencies and contractors to use its AI models for military purposes, a departure from its previous policy. The company's AI models, called Llama, will be made available to federal agencies and already has partnerships with defense contractors like Lockheed Martin and Booz Allen. Llama is open source, meaning it can be freely copied and distributed. Meta's move aims to support the safety, security, and economic prosperity of the United States and its allies in the global AI race. The company plans to share its technology with members of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance.
