Manufacturing sector worst hit by ransomware in India: Palo Alto Networks’ report

The manufacturing sector in India has become the primary target for ransomware attacks, according to a report by Palo Alto Networks' Unit 42. The report analyzed leak site posts from ransomware groups and found that LockBit ransomware was the most active, followed by Akira. The report highlights vulnerabilities within the Indian manufacturing sector, such as limited visibility into operational technology systems and inadequate network monitoring. It recommends implementing a Zero Trust network architecture and fully integrated cybersecurity solutions to address these vulnerabilities. The report also notes a decline in phishing as a tactic, as cybercriminals adapt more advanced infiltration methods. Median ransom demands increased, but median payouts decreased, potentially due to organizations calling in incident response teams with negotiation capabilities.
