Inflection's implosion and ChatGPT's stall reveal AI's consumer problem

Inflection AI, a startup that raised $1 billion last year at a $4 billion valuation, is exiting its consumer chatbot business less than a year after launching. The startup's main product, Pi, an AI chatbot for emotional support and advice, failed to gain significant traction with just 1 million daily average users. This highlights the challenges faced by consumer-facing AI technology, as it struggles to generate revenue and compete with internet giants like Google and Meta. Even the successful ChatGPT has seen a stagnation in monthly visits since its launch in November 2022. Meanwhile, OpenAI is shifting its focus towards enterprise businesses and leveraging its partnership with Microsoft.
