Indian budget carrier Akasa Air has accused the aviation regulator of causing significant financial and operational hardships by not intervening to stop pilots from abruptly quitting, leading to flight cancellations. Over 40 pilots have recently resigned, causing around 18% of flights to be canceled in August. Akasa is suing the pilots for contractual violations and has warned of potential closure if the situation continues. The airline argues that the regulator should intervene in the public interest. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will respond in court to Akasa's plea.

The pilots' abrupt departure caused disruptions in flights between July and September, resulting in last-minute cancellations. Akasa's market share dropped to 4.2% in August from 5.2% the previous month. The company plans to take legal action against the pilots who left without serving their contractual notice period. Akasa has received regulatory approval to fly to international destinations and will commence operations by the end of the year.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a show cause notice to Akasa Air, a new airline in India, for violating norms related to its operations manual. The regulator found that the airline's operations manual exceeded the required six-month revision cycle. Additionally, the notice mentioned the airline's failure to comply with Civil Aviation Rules. This comes after a show cause notice was also issued to an Akasa Air engineer for poor maintenance standards. Some pilots have also raised concerns about safety and training practices, calling for an independent investigation into the airline's management. Akasa Air has dismissed the allegations as baseless.

Boeing's reduced production and Pratt & Whitney's inspection of engines on Airbus neos may result in a significant decrease in aircraft deliveries to Indian airlines next year. This development could affect the expansion plans of airlines such as Air India Express and Akasa Air, while the leading market player IndiGo awaits delivery of new Airbus 320 neo planes with inspected P&W engines. The delay in aircraft deliveries, coupled with bankruptcies and groundings in the industry, may setback India's aviation sector and potentially lead to higher airfares, impacting passenger growth and domestic tourism.
