India's chip industry: From stalled to successful

India has made significant progress in its semiconductor industry with the successful first phase of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), resulting in the approval of five semiconductor projects. These projects include chip packaging plants and a chip fabrication unit, expected to be operational by 2027. The second phase of ISM is expected to focus on partnerships with global semiconductor leaders, expanding the raw material ecosystem, and developing skilled talent. Domestic companies like Tata Group and Murugappa Group have entered the sector, indicating India's openness to semiconductor manufacturing. Government support and nurturing the full supply chain are crucial for building a holistic semiconductor ecosystem. Skilled workforce development is also highlighted as a key factor for success.
