India is set to get its first domestically manufactured memory chip by the end of 2024, according to union electronics and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. South Korea's Simmtech will invest over INR 1,250 Cr to set up a plant in Gujarat, in collaboration with Micron's upcoming semiconductor unit. Simmtech manufactures high-layer printed circuit boards for semiconductors, and the plant is expected to create over 1,000 direct and indirect job opportunities. Vaishnaw also urged Micron to collaborate with IIT Gandhinagar to establish a center of excellence for semiconductor talent.
