India cracks down on leaked Aadhaar and PAN data, blocks insecure websites

The Indian Government has blocked websites that exposed sensitive personal information of citizens, including Aadhaar and PAN card details. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) took this action, and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) filed an official complaint. Security vulnerabilities were found, and website owners were provided with instructions to fix them. CERT-In issued guidelines for secure applications, and directives under the IT Act were issued. MeitY emphasized the importance of data protection rules, and a new data protection law is being finalized. An awareness campaign has been launched, and Livemint is the fastest growing news website globally.
